Knitted
Due to the figure-hugging nature of these garments, glamour photography since the 1940s and 1950s has often featured people wearing swimsuits.
This subset of glamour photography eventually evolved into swimsuit photography with the help of Sports Illustrated and swimsuit photographers around the world.
The first bikinis were introduced just after World War II. Early examples were not very different from the women's two pieces common since the 1920s, except that they had a gap below the breast line allowing for a section of bare midriff.
Through the 1950s, it was thought proper for the lower part of the bikini to come up high enough to cover the navel.
From the 1960s on, the bikini shrank in all directions until it sometimes covered little more than the nipples and genitalia, although less revealing models giving more support to the breasts remained popular.
At the same time, Fashion designer Rudi Gernreich introduced the monokini, a topless suit for women consisting of a modest bottom supported by two thin straps.
However, the one-piece suit continued to be popular for its more modest approach.
Bikini season
By the time Bikini Season is right around the corner we ask ourselves, do I look fat, or can I pull this off without looking like a beached whale?
The answer to that question lies within each of us.
There are so many different styles to choose from today and pricing from wal-mart specials to Versace numbers in the hundreds you will not soon run out of choices.
The point I am trying to make here is that no matter what your style, taste or size there is a bikini for you.
The bikini was invented back in 1946 by the French Greco Romans, which they named after the island (atoll) Bikini.
Personally I love a beautiful woman in a bikini and so do most other men that I know, which lends itself to the "power of fashion", and pretty much has made itself one of the staples in the clothing industry today.
So the question is bikini, thong, or two pieces? And your answer is as good as any and I can also tell you that no one really cares what you wear, just don't show up at the beach naked… that is unless you want a ticket.
Some of the most popular brands of bikini are from France and the U.S. and in some circles the bikini is deviant and unacceptable.
Bikini's have been used to sell sports, cheese, cologne, and just about every kind of alcoholic beverage possible.
They are truly a staple in our society and frankly they are not going anywhere, but they are getting smaller by the year.
